Sometimes a mole is trapped between the Mole Repeller and another mole.  The inner mole finds the lesser threat and tries to attack it.  To combat this you will need to move the Mole Repeller back approximately 6 - 10ft (away from where you wish to drive the mole) - effectively using the mole repeller as a sheepdog rounding up the sheep.
